What does AI mean for Mentron?
Through our platform, we offer straightforward access to Symbolic Regression, a method from the field of Genetic Programming. This allows the derivation of understandable, explainable models even from complex datasets, precisely describing and interpreting relationships between data points in the form of a mathematical expression. To achieve this goal effectively, we rely on a carefully balanced combination of algorithms from evolutionary computing, numerical methods, and biologically inspired techniques. This creates a powerful foundation for not just gaining predictions from data, but making the underlying structures transparently visible.
What is the difference to Neural Networks?
Neural networks usually represent a pre-trained model that has learned from very large amounts of data and is thus highly specialized for a specific task. This enables fast and efficient processing of new inputs. At the same time, their traceability is often limited, as the internal decision-making process of the model is difficult to interpret. This is why they are often referred to as Black Box models.
Symbolic regression, on the other hand, follows a different approach: it is a flexible process that often works with comparatively small amounts of data and can be applied to various problems. Its central advantage lies in transparency: an explainable White-Box model can be obtained from complex datasets, describing the relationships between data points as a clear mathematical expression, making it easier to understand and verify.
